The England Illegal Money Lending Team (Stop Loan Shark team) have continued with their awareness raising campaign in schools and colleges across England promoting the dangers of borrowing money from loan sharks and since the last forum in November, we have reached out and successfully informed over 5000 students and in particular have stressed the points that a) the fastest growing sector of the England population taking out loans from illegal money lenders in 2021 & 2022 were under the age of 24 and b) 35% of those borrowers met the loan shark either via social media or an app. This is due to the fact that during lockdown, many loan sharks changed their tactics due to there being minimal face to face contact.
In addition, our free Young Money approved educational packs for both primary and secondary schools entitled Lessons about keeping our money safe (aimed at 5 – 11 years) and Lessons in safer lending and borrowing (aimed at 11 – 19 years) continue to be downloaded from our website www.stoploansharks.co.uk and these can be found under the education tab.
