NatWest MoneySense

MoneySense, NatWest’s free and impartial financial education programme for 5-18s, has had a very successful year.

NatWest MoneySense: Bringing financial education to millions of young people

We achieved and surpassed our goal of reaching 10 million students since launching in 1994. As of 31 August 2022, the number reached now stands at an incredible 11,196,695, and our Young Money accredited resources are used in 60% of UK primary schools and 90% of secondary schools. MoneySense also launched a brand-new section of the MoneySense website targeting young adults.

Every young person deserves a solid financial education, and we know how important it is to build good money habits from a young age. At MoneySense we continue to promote financial education, and build our vast library of lesson plans, activities, online games, quizzes, videos and more, to help teachers, parents and students.

Our money games continue to be popular with younger visitors to the website. Coin Cruncher (where children select the coins that make up requested and feed a hungry character) the Change Game, and the Budget Game regularly appear in our most-visited pages.

To keep MoneySense fresh and engaging we’ve launched a host of new resources this year, including augmented reality games for 5-8s, a Business Masterclass video lesson for 16-18s, and a suite of content to help children (and adults) understand cryptocurrency. ‘In focus’ articles for Young Adults address topical issues, such as the rise of scams, and rising inflation rates. We’re excited about the upcoming launch of our money-themed escape room interactive for 16-18s.

As the cost-of-living crisis hits the UK, it’s also never been more important for young people to understand the key concepts of budgeting, credit, and keeping their money safe. Our young adults’ section is designed to help young people build their financial independence as they take the step from school to work or university. With no-nonsense guides to financial terms, inflation and cryptocurrencies as well as advice on budgeting, saving and managing debts, the hub has a different look and feel, and hosts articles, video explainers and money diaries to encourage peer-to-peer learning.

Research conducted in 2022 showed that 70% of people who accessed our young adults hub said their confidence with money management had increased. In fact, learners of all ages reported that they felt MoneySense content was helpful and what they learned would be useful for managing their money in the future, while 82% of teachers and 64% of parents said they felt more confident about teaching young people about money after using MoneySense.

All MoneySense content is free to use and are designed to make it easier for teachers and parents to deliver valuable lessons that help young people make sense of money. Explore what MoneySense has to offer at mymoneysense.com.
