The Money and Pensions Service (MaPS) is an arm’s-length body of the UK Government with a vision of everyone making the most of their money and pensions. MaPS coordinates the UK Strategy for Financial Wellbeing, published in 2020, which set a national goal of two million more children and young people receiving a meaningful financial education by 2030.
Talk Money Week is the national campaign that aims to get everyone talking about money. This Talk Money Week, MaPS is asking organisations and businesses all over the UK to encourage their own audiences to do one thing to help improve the financial wellbeing of themselves or others – and to make a noise about it so that others are inspired to do the same. Please save the date in your diaries, look out for the updated Participation Pack and Toolkit for Schools, and get in touch with ideas for how we can make the Week an even bigger success this year. Find out more here.
In June 2023, MaPS published headline findings from the 2022 Children and Young People Financial Wellbeing Survey. The nationally representative survey provides a picture of the financial wellbeing of seven to 17 year olds across the UK and measures progress against the UK Strategy for Financial Wellbeing financial education national goal. We look forward to sharing findings with Forum attendees in October.
MaPS has published an updated evidence review exploring what works in strengthening children and young people’s financial capability. The findings will be of use to organisations funding or delivering financial education for children and young people, helping to ensure interventions can have the greatest impact. The review also highlights gaps in the current evidence base, which we hope will be used to inform future research.
Talk Learn Do Digital is now available on the MoneyHelper website, providing bite-sized, fun and engaging content to Topics covered inlcude digital money, pester power, scams, and pocket money.

Progress continues on MaPS’ grant programme, supporting expert partners to expand and embed teacher training and develop provision for children and young people in vulnerable circumstances.
By providing potential models for scaling up delivery in schools and in the community, the findings from this programme will be used to inform policymakers and financial education providers and funders. The findings will be disseminated in 2024. Find out more about the programme here.
