Financial Education Parliamentary Reception
On Monday 9th September, we organised a Parliamentary Drinks Reception, hosted by Jerome Mayhew MP (Chair of the All-Party-Parliamentary-Group on Financial Education for Young People) and supported by HSBC UK, engaging a wide range of stakeholders of the financial education sectors with parliamentarians and policy makers to ensure that financial education remains top of the education agenda. The reception was well attended, with many new and returning MPs stopping by and speeches from Jerome Mayhew MP, Martin Lewis CBE (award-winning journalist and founder of Money Saving Expert) and Jose Carvalho (Head of Wealth and Personal Banking at HSBC UK). A key theme of the evening was the need for collaboration and coordination across the sector, and the continued push to ensure that every young person receives a meaningful financial education to best prepare them for the future. We were delighted to see so many members of the Financial Education Forum at the reception, and look forward to continue working with the sector to advocate for financial education within government.

Update from My Money Week 2024
The My Money Week 2024 theme was saving money and protecting the planet. Over 700 centres across the UK got involved with activities ranging from thinking about food waste, to saving energy, looking after our things and fast fashion.
We also highlighted applied learning opportunities in this year’s guides. Teachers offered students opportunities to interact with money in realistic ways by selling upcycled goods, taking trips to local businesses and budgeting for school trips. In our school challenges primary students saved electricity at home and school and calculated how much money they saved, many of them enthusiastically continued after My Money Week was over!
When surveyed after My Money Week 92% of teachers said that their students enjoyed learning about money more than before and a further 92% said that My Money Week inspired them to provide more opportunities for young people to learn about money.
We are currently building a programme for My Money Week 2025 (9th – 11th June 2025). If you’d like to connect as we form our plans, please reach out to Cerys (My Money Week Programme Manager) at cerys.wakeman@y-e.org.uk

Our conference will focus on how teachers can better prepare their students for the future and equip them with the tools they need to be productive, learn to earn and look after their money.
The conference is a wonderful opportunity for educators to come together to network, gain valuable insights and inspiration for their classroom. We’ll be sharing practical techniques for integrating financial capability and work readiness into your lessons.
