About the NYA

As the national body for youth work in England, the National Youth Agency (NYA) exists to champion youth work’s lifechanging impacts on young people’s lives. Youth work is a distinct form of education that helps young people to develop the personal social and emotional skills that they need for life in safe, fun, educative environments with trusted adults. We believe all young people should have the opportunity to benefit from the life-changing impact of extraordinary youth workers and trained volunteers.

We help to grow youth work provision in ways that keep it effective, relevant, safe and engaging, to help millions of young people reach their potential and thrive. We do this by providing guidance, support, advice, training and staff development opportunities for youth workers and youth work organisations.

Partnership with NatWest

NatWest Thrive has been co-created with young people and developed in partnership with NatWest Bank and Marcus Rashford. NatWest Thrive is a movement for young people aged 8 to 24 and is designed to:

· Instil confidence and develop goal-setting skills

· Inspire young people to chase their dreams

· Encourage the development of good money habits

The programme has been developed by specialist youth workers at the NYA in consultation with young people and their youth workers to improve young people’s confidence with money through developing trusted relationships with youth clubs and through the power of youth work, whilst also raising their aspirations for the future and giving them the tools and resilience to get there. Through a series of face-to-face sessions youth workers deliver activities that incorporate interactivity, group discussion and coaching.

NatWest are also paving the way for innovative business and third sector partnerships, showing their commitment to the youth sector by administering – in partnership with the NYA – almost £3 million work of youth work training through the bank’s Apprenticeship Levy Transfer scheme.

“I am so grateful to have been involved with NatWest Thrive as it has made me think about what my future could look like and inspired me to go for my dreams.”

Toke 18, NatWest Thrive participant in London.

NatWest Thrive is not just financial education. It’s about financial coaching, behaviour change and personal development. It’s about supporting young people to stay tenacious, helping them learn at their own pace, according to their own definition of success, and showing them they can do it!

Last year 73% of participants who took part in NatWest Thrive in their youth clubs reported they had a clearer plan for their future and 89% felt ready to take action towards their goals.
