CVs

  • Microsoft Office provide a whole load of templates that you can use if you have Microsoft Office or Word on your computer. They’re free to download and are easy to edit to put in your own information. Just so you know, in America CVs are called ‘Resumes’ so look out for these!
  • Both Wix and WordPress provide free website and blog templates, that you can set up and edit easily on their sites. This can be a great way to add other media to your CV. For instance if you’re applying for a job in media, you could have video footage in an online portfolio.
  • Canva have a huge range of templates for different documents, but not all of them are free to download. You edit them on the site (so you don’t need Microsoft Office on your computer) and then download them as a PDF. You can save your document on Canva’s website so you can edit it there later.
  • Lastly, the job search website, Reed, have got lots of hints and tips about writing your CV. Check them out for even more help!

Cover Letters

  • CV Library, a job search website, have some helpful tips about writing a Cover Letter, including a short video and a downloadable template.
  • Monster also has a load of templates specifically for different jobs (eg: marketing or customer service) that you can download for free.
  • The templates available from Microsoft Office include both Cover Letters and normal letters. You can download them for free and edit in Microsoft Word on your computer.
  • Lastly, if you want to go for something really different, Loom is a website that lets you record what’s happening on your screen, along with a video of yourself speaking. You could use this to talk a potential employer through things you’ve made on the computer (like videos or websites), basically creating a video Cover Letter.
